Month of Thankfulness: The People Around Us

Posted on November 17, 2021 by Reed Naliboff

t’s safe to say that a lot of us learned to be a lot more thankful for the people around us in the past year. We learned to be alone when COVID hit, and we learned how much we either love solitude, or hate it. There’s a fine line between everyone’s balance, but no matter how much solitude means to us, we’re convinced that the people around us help make life all the more adventurous.

THE PEOPLE AROUND US

Do you ever sit and wonder how the people you love in life are all so different from one another? You can have one friend that’s ready to paddle at any given time, rain or shine, and another who will do yoga, and only yoga on the water, and somehow, we need the pace of both people around us.

WHY PEOPLE MATTER

With over 7 billion people on the planet, it’s hard to wonder just how many connections there are in the world, but numerous studies agree that humans are wired to desire community and being around others, even if that’s desired in different measures. Psychology Today cites that thankfulness often begins with discovering the goodness in life, and sometimes it takes the people around us to open our eyes to the good adventures that lie before us.

However, here’s the key thing to note: you don’t always have to know people to be thankful for them. For some, making friends or staying close to family comes easier, and for others it’s the opposite, but sometimes the goodness of life can be found by looking at strangers.

The stranger pulled over on the side of the road to take a picture of the sunset. The one chasing after someone who dropped their wallet. The one you pass on a hiking trail who looks like they’ve just rediscovered their purpose in life. And the one you see paddle boarding on the water. We all carry a different outlook on life, and whether we know the people we pass by everyday or not, we can learn a lot just by being around them, and that’s something to be thankful for.

SHOWING GRATITUDE TO THE PEOPLE AROUND US

So how can you demonstrate gratitude to the people around you? Spend time with them! This is one of the many reasons we love paddle boarding, because spending time with people is a benefit on all ends, and with a paddle board, you get the chance to create new memories and explore new places.

Our Megalodon board is also perfect for those who want to paddle on the same board, with the capacity to fit multiple people at once (furry friends included). We’ve also laid out some great gifts to give those you love, as a way of showing you care. All in all, unboxing your next biggest adventure may just look like learning from those around us, while giving thanks.
